I still tip the same as before, we just don't eat out as much. Sometimes I even tip more because I know how the economy is. My family is having a tough time, but that doesn't mean I'm going to leave someone a lousy tip, If I can't afford a tip then I don't go somewhere that requires a tip.

Concerned,

This is one of those few occasions where I agree with you. If you can’t afford to leave a decent tip, then stay home and BBQ.

It would be unfair to tip less. Servers must live in this economy as well. I am hoping the the majority of us who continue to eat out occassionally are not hoping that the servers will foot a portion of our bill becuase the costs have increased.

I want to believe that servers are getting less in tips because people are eating out less.

Come on, if you can afford to eat out, certainly you can still afford to leave a respectable tip.

I use to tip at 20% of my restaurant bill, then the restaurants raised their prices so I tipped at 15% of my restauarant bill, now they really raised their prices and I tip at 10% of my restaurant bill. A good example is Red Lobster where my favorite salmon dish has gone up from $9.99 to $11.49 in just the past week. My car now requires $65 to fill the tank when it use to cost me $32 which is an increase of $33. I can't afford to tip like I use to do and I go out to eat much less times a week to avoid using my gas up. It's that simple, and I'm sure others are doing the same. The current economy is horrible.

No, they generally make around $3.00 an hour so they basically live on tip money. As long as the service is good. If the servers have an attitude, or look ****** because they have to work, they get less...

As long as the service remains the same, I continue to tip as always. I realize the servers need to make a living too, not fair to shorten their income.
