BOE looking for feedback on cutting costs
LIBERTY — The Board of Education is looking for a few good suggestions. Suggestions to cut down on energy costs, that is. A survey has been running on the district’s Web site since the beginning of the school year asking for input from the public on how the board can cut costs. Superintendent Mark Lucas said the district has received 40 responses and most of the suggestions center on transportation and energy savings. Lucas said some other suggestions include e-mailing report cards instead of printing them to save on paper costs and keeping the air conditioners turned up high during the summer months when no one is in the buildings. Another popular item was sending just one note home instead of duplicate ones if more than one child in a family attends the same school, Lucas said. Also debated was having styrofoam trays that students can throw away at lunch, which may save on water for washing. ‘‘There’s a lot of good stuff,’’ Lucas said.
