I don’t usually do the New Years’ resolutions thing. I’ve always thought that if you are going to do something to improve yourself, any day is a good time to start. I guess since New Year’s is right around the corner, I’ll throw in my hat. Here are some of my goals and what I would like others to think about as well. First, I’m planning on removing a few words from my vocabulary. Some of them have been overused, and some aren’t appropriate in mixed company. I wish it were as easy as hitting a delete button, but word use becomes a habit, y’know? Try this: record yourself and listen to what you say and how you say it. I’ll bet you will hear some unnecessary verbiage that sneaked in there. I’ll have a sore tongue from biting back those phrases until I have them under control. Second, focus on my achievements, not my failures. It’s so easy to dwell on our shortcomings. Sometimes, when everything seems to go wrong, we overlook the small achievements that have happened along the way.
